When it freezes

I know the rain is back and this may be a little dated but here is a tip. When the weather is so cold, in the twenties, getting your carpets cleaned is not a bad idea. Why? Because when the air is as dry as it has been carpets dry faster. Who'd a thunk.
Another tip. When it is as cold as it has been there is a major risk of broken pipes. Outdoor faucets freeze up as well. Don't do what a client of mine did. He wanted to thaw out the outdoor hose bib so he poured warm, not hot, water over the faucet. It was a good idea but not effective enough. So, he went right for the big guns and struck up the propane torch and began to carefully heat the faucet. He was a distance away and warming around the fixture but it happened anyway. The heat in the metal pipe transferred to the little plastic relief valve and it went down in a dripping mass of flames. Hindsight said-- a hair dryer would have been a better choice. I have not heard a lot of good outcomes from extreme heat so be careful, be safe.
